There are so many things coming up in 2012, I don’t know where to begin! I will start by saying I *truly* believe in putting things out into the universe so that you can make them happen. I have been working on this post for about 3 weeks, and today is the day I debut it!
I wanted to share the sessions I hope to do this year. I work my sessions around what the clients would like, but I also get to have a little dream! Below I have outlined 2 sessions per season I would love to have the chance to create this year. I also took a moment to talk about what inspired me to want to create those sessions.
I promise in the future my posts wont be this long. Go big or go home, right?
Winter.
Santa Baby Shoot
Inspired by an uber-cute Santa fleece jacket I picked up. I have a vision of a vintage Christmas and a jolly baby. Think much bigger than a black backdrop… I am dreaming big about wooden sleds, a live tree outdoors, a stone fire place and all things that scream nostalgic Christmas. And in my extreme fantasy land, there is snow. Lots of snow. I know, I know… snow + babies + sitting for photos = a recipe for disaster. But I did say that last part was in my extreme fantasy land.
Romantic Winter Wonderland Shoot
Inspired by my hubby’s Aunt and Uncle’s annual Christmas party, I want to do a winter wonderland shoot. They have a beautiful antique sled with a pair of skates hanging outside their front door every year. I have seen it many times over the past 12 years but this year it really struck me. The sled and skates accompanied by all the nostalgic collectables and antiques they have in their beautiful North Jersey home made me want to turn that feeling I had into a photo session. A warm red blanket, sparkly mistletoe, a ring in a snowball, a sled and skates, something beautiful with icy branches and an engagement ring, pine cones tipped with glittery snow, the center of a snowy town with old fashioned lamp posts. You get the idea.
Spring.
Love Is In The Air Session
Inspired by something I share with my nearest and dearest every year called “Alive Day”. The first weekend of April every year, we celebrate another year that she is here. This is not a birthday, this is a Re-Birth Day :) We have a photo under the most beautiful cherry blossom tree from two years ago. The sun was shining, the sky was blue, we walked an amazing garden, and had a beautiful outside lunch.
This inspires me to see photos in a beautiful garden, with endless options: cherry blossom trees, fields of poppies, and endless daffodils. There is a couple all new, fresh and in love, with a picnic blanket, classic novels, and wine. There are park benches and long walks holding hands. And since love is in the air, I dare to dream big and say that they day ends with a hot air balloon ride.
If Love Is In The Air, Why Can’t There Be Music In The Air Too?
Anyone who knows me, knows my insane love of music. I have zero musical talents, so I will need to use my photography talents for someone who does. Inspired by some beautifully lit photos of a musician friend of mine (shout out to JD!) and some amazing stills I saw of Adele in concert, I want to turn my love of music into a photograph.
This is my inspiration for more-than-just-headshots of a musician. Headshots are often necessary. I don’t want someone to just see a musician; I want them to feel like they know them. I see a willow tree, and acoustic guitar, ripped jeans, and a whole lot of heart going into whatever they are play or singing. A photo obviously can’t transport sound, but I am inspired to capture an image that is so powerful, it makes you feel like you are right there. I want to be able to feel the music through a single image. Or maybe it’s indoors at an old, wooden piano, back lit by a stunning bay window. The artist is so heartfelt about what they are playing and singing that all you can focus on is their emotion. The beautiful background is just an added feature.
Summer.
Summer Lovin’ Session
Inspired by a photo taken of my husband and on top a Ferris wheel about 5 years ago, (a self-portrait with a junky pocket camera) I want to create a session that is all about summer time love. No one knows summer time love better than those of us that are from the REAL Jersey Shore. A place where flip flops are considered “in” over fist pumps, you get your tan in the salty air not a stinky booth, and you always get a seat at the bar because you are a local – not because you are on TV.
I see photos of a couple (some parts could even work for an awesome family shoot!) family on the boardwalk, playing games, eating cotton candy, drinking milkshakes, covered in powdered sugar from a funnel cake, standing at an oversized gumball machine. There is a Ferris wheel ride, and roller coasters that aren’t scary but the photo show people throwing their arms up in the air and screaming for fun. There are beautiful shots under the boardwalk with the waves crashing in the background, and poses with people leaning up against the piers. Just as the session is about to end, the last few shots are beautiful and romantic IN the ocean. He’s holding her, she is in love with him, and the rest just falls into place.
Boats, Boats, Boats
Boats, Boats, Boats
Our friend has a sail boat. It’s pretty fantastic. In the summer on 2010 I took so many amazing photos on that boat. Sunsets, sails, smiles and bright sunshine. Those photos are my inspiration for a boat theme session. There is nothing like sail on a beautiful, warm, sunny day.
My vision for a boat session goes in two different directions. One is on a sail boat in nautical theme gear (not overboard, - pun intended - but just enough to get the vibe). There are action shots , detail boat shots, candid shots and other custom portraits. Maybe we stop and anchor for a bit and shoot around on an obscure little island.
The second involves row boats. This one is overly romantic, and probably takes place in central park. There is a definite vintage vibe to the whole session. I would spend most of my time in another boat catching all their candid shots. Him looking at her, her throwing her head back in laughter, kissing from afar, that look on their face when they thing they may tip. The couple pulls off to the side, and stays in the boat, maybe holding hands talking, and I am snapping away seeing them through the branches of a beautiful tree. There are details shots of their vintage clothing (maybe even a parasol) and naturally some of them walking over those fancy little bridges and at fountains only central park has to offer.
Fall.
To Cool For School
Inspired by my friend Michele and her two children and the infamous “red background” I want to re-invent school photos. So many friends have told me that they aren’t happy with school pictures and that they are too expensive. While those awful back drops and geeky clothes are somewhat of a rite of passage, I want children to have something more to look back on. This also includes senior portraits. Graduation is such a pivotal time, it such be captured and documented sans the lame backdrop.
I see photos of children being them self. Not stuck in the same pose as the 373 before them. I see children showing their true personality, incorporating the things they are interested in. I see kids stepping out of the box and taking it to a new level: maybe sharing their dream of what they want to be when they grow up and dressing the part, or doing the ballet routine they learned this summer in full costume for me to capture. The possibilities are endless.
Rockabilly – Tattoo Session
My inspiration for wanting to do this: my life. I love a good tattoo, find myself obsessed with all things 50’s and vintage, and love something just a little different.
My vision is involves so much awesomeness, I just don’t know where to start. Converse shoes, balloons, vintage cars, fedora hats, cool glasses, flowers in her hair, lots and lots of tattoos, a drive in movie theater, an old diner, jukebox, records, polka dots, dice, airstream trailer, crazy furniture, cupcakes, cherries, roller skates, memorabilia, I could go on forever. There are photos at creative angles, all kinds of detail shots, funky textured backgrounds…. My heart is skipping a beat just thinking about it.
If I were to shoot a Rockabilly – Tattoo wedding I may just flat line.
If you have made it this far, I am impressed! Thank you for all your love and support!

Congrats my friend on your success and your blog..which I love of course! You ideas and talent are endless!
